What a EUR/UIC pallet is
The EUR pallet (EUR-1) is the European exchangeable flat pallet measuring 1200 × 800 mm. Its dimensions, material, fasteners and marking are specified by the UIC 435-2 standard of the International Union of Railways (UIC). Thanks to this common standard, EUR pallets from all licensed manufacturers are identical and can be exchanged in the European pallet pool.
What the standard specifies
- dimensions of 1200 × 800 × 144 mm and the exact size and position of 11 boards and 9 blocks,
- wood quality and moisture content,
- the number, type and position of nails,
- marking of the pallet with trademarks and a production code.
EUR/UIC and EPAL – what is the difference
Today there are two separate licensing systems for the European exchange pallet 1200 × 800 mm: EUR/UIC of the International Union of Railways and EPAL (European Pallet Association). Pallets of both systems have the same dimensions and design; they differ in licence, inspection organisation and marking – EUR/UIC pallets carry the EUR-in-oval and UIC marks, EPAL pallets the EPAL-in-oval mark.
We manufacture EUR/UIC pallets, not EPAL. If you exchange pallets in a pallet pool, check in advance which pallets your contract partners and hauliers accept.
Our licence
Our permit to manufacture EUR-1 pallets to UIC 435-2 and the sublicence to mark them with the EUR and UIC trademarks were issued by Slovenská železničná kontrola, a.s. (SŽK), an approved pallet organisation under a framework agreement with ZSSK CARGO. The permit covers our plant in Revúca.
How to recognise our EUR pallet
The UIC and EUR-in-oval trademarks are branded on the corner blocks; the production code and the IPPC mark are on the middle block.
