What ISPM 15 and IPPC are
ISPM 15 is an international phytosanitary standard issued by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) under the FAO. It sets out how wooden packaging must be treated so that wood pests, such as insects or the pinewood nematode, do not spread with transported goods. Treated packaging carries the IPPC mark.
When you need IPPC pallets
- when exporting goods outside the European Union – most countries, for example the USA, Canada, China, the United Kingdom and Australia, require wooden packaging treated to ISPM 15,
- when your customer requires it – many companies want IPPC pallets even for deliveries within the EU so the goods can be shipped on anywhere.
The standard applies to packaging made of solid wood. Packaging made entirely of processed wood, such as plywood or OSB, does not need to be treated.
How we treat our pallets
We use the HT (heat treatment) method in our drying kiln. The wood core is heated to at least 56 °C for at least 30 minutes. Treatment is combined with drying, so the pallets also have a lower moisture content of 22 % or as required. The kiln is heated with wood waste from our own production, and we use no chemical treatment.
We heat treat all our products: EUR pallets, custom pallets and interlayers.
